PRLog (Press Release)Feb 10, 2012
Las Vegas, Nevada. Robert Groesbeck from the Canada  Nevada Business Council addressed the C11 organization of Canada in January  2012 to discuss trade opportunities between Nevada, and their biggest trading  partner, Canada.

Robert Groesbeck, VP of Government Affairs for CNBC was  invited to address the C11 organization, which represents the economic  development arms of the largest eleven cities in Canada, to explore increased  trade opportunities between Canada and the State of Nevada, at the Offices of  the Canadian Consul General in San Francisco, California, on January 19, 2012.

The Canada Nevada Business Council (CNBC) is a non-profit  group geared towards the promotion of bilateral trade between Canada and  Nevada. The CNBC is dedicated to  strengthening the relationships between Canadian and Nevada based companies,  and providing a mutually rewarding trade experience.

At the C11 meeting Groesbeck spoke on a number of topics, including the  proposed Desert Xpress high-speed rail project, linking Las Vegas, Nevada to  Victorville, California, and the significant economic impact that project will  have on the southern Nevada economy. Real estate opportunities in Nevada were  also discussed at length, including commercial, retail, industrial and residential  opportunities.

Other significant projects discussed were:

Interstate 11: In June 2010 the Legislature approved a resolution calling on the Federal Highway Administration to designate the new I-11 corridor from the Mexican border to the Canadian border using the current US 93 and US 95 alignments.

Creech Airforce Base: MQ-1 Predator—remotely piloted aircraft.

Switch: The world’s largest and most powerful data center and technology ecosystem.

Cleveland Clinic’s Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health: State of the art care for cognitive disorders. The Most up to date technology and the development of new, powerful treatment options

One of the most exciting topics discussed  at the forum was the potential to partner with Canadian companies and local  governments in several Provinces, including Calgary and Saskatchewan to provide  much-needed employment opportunities to skilled Nevada workers in Canada.  CNBC has agreed to serve as the facilitator between the Canadian stakeholders  and organized labor in Nevada and is committed to seeing a program implemented  through job fairs and other outreach programs as quickly as possible.

As Groesbeck stated, “Unemployment  levels remain unacceptably high in Nevada. Our skilled labor pool is the strongest  in the country, and the Canadian oil and gas and mining industries would  benefit greatly from their skill and experience.”

Employment opportunities such as this upcoming job fair will  help workers in not only Nevada, but Canada too, and promise to open the door  to greater economic growth in both countries.

Robert Groesbeck is a long-time resident of Nevada, attorney,  and former mayor of Henderson, NV.    He  has sat on many high profile boards including the Nevada Development Authority,  Boys and Girls Club of Henderson, is a member of the Las Vegas international  Press club, as well as a founding member of the Canada Nevada Business  Council.
