Russian opposition Yabloko party founder Grigory Yavlinsky could be denied registration as a presidential candidate by Russia’s Central Election Commission.

Reports say the commission has allegedly found that more than 20 percent of documents with signatures supporting Yavlinsky’s candidacy could be invalid.

Russian law on presidential elections requires candidates to provide at least 2 million signatures of their supporters in order to get official registration.

Yavlinsky is seeking to join the candidates who will oppose Prime Minister Vladimir Putin in the March 4 election.
