Violence in Egypt has continued for a third straight day since deadly soccer-related clashes left 74 people dead.
In the capital Cairo, police fired tear gas and shotgun pellets in an attempt to subdue stone-throwing protesters gathered outside the Interior Ministry and elsewhere in the city.
Violence was also reported in the cities of Suez and Alexandria.
Several deaths have been reported, and the official MENA news agency on February 4 cited the Health Ministry as saying more than 2,500 people have been injured.
Many protesters blame law enforcement and the country’s military-led authorities for failing to stop the soccer violence, and accuse them of exploiting the unrest to prevent a transition to a civilian government.
