Speaking on U.S. TV, Obama said the United States was cooperating closely with ally Israel to solve the crisis.
He repeated that all options remain on the table, a hint at possible military intervention, but stressed Washington is looking for a diplomatic solution built around a world coalition.
Iran insists its nuclear pursuits are for peaceful civilian purposes, not a bomb.
Obama’s comments come after the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard warned Iran will retaliate against any country used to launch an attack on the Islamic republic.
General Hossein Salami was quoted by Iran’s Fars news agency as saying “any place where enemy offensive operations against the Islamic Republic of Iran originate will be the target.”
