U.S. President Barack Obama meets his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili later today at the White House.
Talks are expected to focus on international security issues and democratic reforms in Georgia, including upcoming parliamentary elections there.
Obama is also expected to thank Saakashvili for sending Georgian troops to Afghanistan.
The two leaders meet as their countries mark twenty years of diplomatic ties.
Saakashvili’s visit to the White House also comes ahead of a NATO summit in Chicago.
At the May meeting, NATO is expected to take up the issue of Georgian membership in the military alliance.
