The French Senate is due to vote today on a bill that would make it a crime to deny the 1915 mass killings of Armenians by Ottoman Turks amounted to genocide.

Leaders of the governing UMP party and the opposition Socialists say they will vote in favor of the bill.

On the eve of the expected vote, Turkey again warned France to reject the bill with Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu promising new measures against France unless the legislation is rejected.

Many Turks argue the killings were part of the general chaos of World War I, and not an organized campaign to wipe out the Armenians.

Last month, Turkey canceled all economic, political and military meetings with Paris and briefly recalled its ambassador after the French lower-house National Assembly voted overwhelmingly in favor of the draft outlawing genocide denial.
