Clashes were continuing between police and protesters in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, as anger mounted over football-related violence that left 74 people dead.

Riot police fired tear gas and shot gun pellets at demonstrators who had gathered near the Interior Ministry, throwing rocks and lighting fires.

AP quotes a volunteer doctor in the capital as saying one protester was killed and hundreds more injured in the clashes.

Demonstrations were also held in the city of Suez, where health officials said two protesters were killed by police gunfire overnight on February 2-3.

Protesters blame the police and the country’s military-led authorities for failing to control an outbreak of post-match violence on February 1 in the coastal city of Port Said, in the world’s deadliest soccer incident since 1996.
