Ukrainian emergency services say 13 more people have died of severe cold in the country — raising to 43 the number who have died from cold weather in recent days.
Most of the victims have been homeless people. The Emergencies Ministry said that of the 43 people who have died over the past five days, 28 were found dead on the streets, seven died in their homes and eight died while receiving medical care in hospitals.
More than 700 people have been hospitalized with hypothermia and frostbite, as Ukraine has experienced its coldest winter in six years.
Temperatures have plunged as low as minus-33 Celsius in some regions.
