President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has indicated Iran will soon announce “very important” achievements in its nuclear research.

In a speech broadcast on state TV, Ahmadinejad said that, “within the coming days we will witness (the) opening and operation of new nuclear projects in Iran.”

He was speaking to a rally in Tehran on February 11 marking the 33rd anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Correspondents report that officials have placed a life-sized model of the U.S. drone captured by Iran in December near the border with Afghanistan, in Tehran’s Azadi, or Freedom, square as a centerpiece for the rally.

Iran’s state TV today showed showing tens of thousands of pro-government demonstrators rallying across the country to mark the 1979 events, which toppled Iran’s pro-west monarchy and brought Islamic clerics to power.
