Official Says IMF Team To Visit Kyiv In September

A Ukrainian official says an International Monetary Fund (IMF) team will visit Kyiv in September to assess its 2013 budget plans as Kyiv tries to unfreeze a $15 billion IMF loan program. First Deputy Prime Minister Valery Khoroshkovsky told Reuters he met IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde on July 31 and reached “a general understanding” the team would visit Kyiv in September. Syrian government warplanes bombed rebel-controlled areas of Aleppo overnight as forces loyal to President Bashar al-Assad attempted to reclaim Syria’s largest city. Reports on August 1 said smoke was rising from areas around Aleppo as rebel fighters rushed to counter the government offensive.
